Nordic Reflections
This tribute to their time at university in Copenhagen focuses on the Scandinavian repertoire. A collection of works of Scandinavian origin, in which TOEAC presents the accordion in a broad spectrum.
The program kicks off with Grieg's Holberg Suite. According to the duo, the versions for strings and piano solo find their perfect balance in the arrangement for accordion duo. The winged romance of the strings continues on their singing Pigini Novas, as well as the punch and rubato that characterize the piano version. The music, full of folk influences, is perfect for the accordion.
Benjamin de Murashkin and Martin Lohse are part of TOEAC's Scandinavian circle of friends. Their work also sounds in Nordic Reflections. Using instructions from minimalist and early Renaissance music, melodies are conjured up over a tightly woven web of notes. All of this is combined with a small insight into the duo's own ability to compose.
